Compstall - Ernocroft Hall
Ernocroft Road : SK6 5HG
The Compstall Grand Athletic Fete took place on 27th June 1870 on the cricket field in grounds adjoining Ernocroft Hall. This large fete included 17 events with a single bicycle race. In the 1 mile bicycle event there were only three competitors, the winner, James Coslow, was handicapped by 16 yards because his bicycle wheels were larger than the other two riders. He still managed to win by 100 yards and was awarded a Geneva watch, the second placed rider won a meerschaum pipe and case.

Ernocroft Hall has been replaced by a housing scheme but the field still exists, just off Ernocroft Road.
